Owning a Morgan horse can be the best experience of your life.  Morgan horses are proud animals with an upright carriage, a powerful graceful neck and expressive eyes.  Morgans are people pleasing horses. Morgans are versatile horses who adapt to their owner's lifestyle.  With speed, strength and versatility the Morgan horse is set apart from other breeds. Rarely will you find a single horse with the willingness and abilities for competitive riding, driving, jumping and enjoying a leisurely trail ride. The Morgan temperament is quite unique, and is the trait responsible for "hooking" many Morgan lovers old and new.

WHAT CAN A MORGAN DO?

At Canaan Farms we can help you find that special Morgan.  Although we are a small operation we do our best to achieve big results.  Since first introduced to the Morgan horse in 1966, we have been fascinated by their unique characteristics; their solid conformations, charismatic presence, eagerness to please, gentle nature, trust and incredible stamina.  Their proud heritage captivates us.  What other breed developed in this country can boast the contributions of the Morgan?  For our breeding program we have selected horses that come from family lines known for their outstanding performance and beauty as both show horses and family mounts. The qualities that we place foremost on our list are intelligence, temperament and balanced conformation.

Our foals are handled daily and are raised in a relaxed environment. They have the opportunity to socialize with other horses and are given lots of time to run and play.  If you're looking for a foal that is extra special? A foal that has a show attitude yet is smart and sensible? A foal that will love people, and love to be handled and groomed? A foal that will grow to be a wonderful show horse yet take you down a wooded trail on a crisp autumn day? If beauty, wonderful disposition and attitude are what you're looking for, you've come to the right place.  Our goal is for you to find that special Morgan that is going to be a part of "your family" for whatever the reason, as long as the season, but a much loved family friend.  So what are you waiting for? Start living your dreams and grab life by the mane and get a Morgan horse! Whichever road you take in life, it's nicer to travel it on a Morgan!

2008 Horse of the Year officially retired

from a USEF press release by Joannie Morris:

Chester Weber's classy veteran Dutch Warmblood, Jamaica, was honored in a retirement ceremony this past Sunday at the Live Oak International CAI.

Now twenty, the flashy bay gelding rose quickly to the world stage and was part of Chester Weber's silver-medal-winning four-in-hand team at the 2008 FEI World Four-in-Hand Championship.

Before Weber acquired the horse, Jamaica had been rescued on his way to the slaughter house -- to be a tourist-carriage horse. He made it clear right away that the patience required for this job wasn't for him. It was this tenacity and strength of character that later made him the star of Weber's string.

He was honored by the entire equestrian community in 2008 when he was named the Farnam / Platform USEF Horse of the Year.

Jamaica
Jamaica (near wheeler) was honored in a retirement ceremony at the Live Oak International CAI
The horse was a member of seven USEF National Championship efforts for Weber, and Weber's career flourished with Jamaica as part of his team. "Jamaica has had a huge impact on my international and national driving career," said Weber. "His difficult nature has often taught me that one has to approach challenges with creativity and persistence. While active in our barn we never stopped learning about him and how to create a win-win partnership."

Jamaica will live out his retirement at the Webers' Live Oak Stud in Ocala, Florida, sharing his opinions with a field full of other retired driving and race horses.
