Riding Lesson Programs
At Canaan Farms Training Center we
offer both private and semi-private riding lessons in various disciplines
including english, western, dressage, driving
and showmanship. We also strongly believe in teaching our riders good
horsemanship. This includes teaching proper horse handling, grooming, tacking,
barn maintenance, equine anatomy and vocabulary, as well as equine vet and
health care. Teaching proper horsemanship not only prepares our students for
horse ownership, but also teaches the life lessons of hard work, responsibility
and the importance of caring for animals.
We train riders and horses to work together
so they have fun and are safe. Fun and Safety are our goals.
Our Philosophy:
Lesson Philosophy:
We strongly believe in teaching our students how to safely,
effectively, and clearly communicate with their horses in the saddle and on the
ground, and to take responsibility for the horses they ride, treating them with
kindness, consideration, and respect.
Lessons include instruction on grooming,
tacking-up, horse care and management, in addition to dressage, jumping, and
natural horsemanship principles.
In the saddle, students focus on developing balance and
using their weight ("seat") to communicate with the horse. Students use the
escalation of aids to obtain the softest response from their horse with the
least amount of pressure. Our goal is for all students to gain a solid
foundation of skills that will transfer to any kind of riding they wish to
pursue.
Riding Lesson Policies and Prices:
A properly fitted SEI or ASTM approved helmet and
appropriate riding boots must be worn during all lessons. Lessons must be paid
for by the time of service. 24-hour cancellation notice is requested NCNS-No Refund.
Child Lead-line Lesson: $35
- 45 minutes (15 min. horsemanship, 30 min. riding)
- Ages 4 and up with instructor approval
Private Lesson: $35-50
- Beginner 1 hour lesson $35.00 (15-30 min. horsemanship, 30- 45 min. riding)
- Ages 7 and up *Younger students with instructor approval
- Advanced 1 hour lesson $50.00 (60 minutes riding)
Semi Private: $30each
- 1 hour (15-30 min. horsemanship, 30- 45 min. riding)
- Two or more students of similar skill level
Lesson Package Available-4 lessons =$100
Our students have the
opportunity to show in 4 local
shows per year.
*Student must
take minimum 2 lessons per week in order to participate in outside shows.
